In dramatic fashion for the second week in a row, the junior Yellow Jackets of JSMS win by simply refusing to lose! The Jackets impose their will early on—marching down the field on the first possession. Chandler Clemmons scores off-tackle for the 1st points of the game. The 2 point conversion failed and JSMS led 6-0. After a 3 & out on defense, the Yellow Jacket offense took charge once again. The offense stalled in the red zone, though, in the 2nd quarter after a holding penalty brought back another Clemmons TD. But on 4th down, Noah Cook hit Kyson Noble in the corner of the end one with a nice touch-pass. The 2 point conversion failed. JSMS led 12-0. The Wildcats woke up after that—a good offensive surge on their part to midfield. After an exchange of punts, the Wildcats regained possession and drove the ball straight through the Jacket defense deep into the red zone. After two consecutive hard-hitting stops inside the 5 yard line, Livingston ran out of time. Jackets led at halftime 12-0.
The 3rd quarter was dominated by tough Livingston play on both offense and defense. The Wildcats finally scored, but the 2 point conversation failed. JSMS clung to a 12-6 edge headed into the 4th quarter. Livingston regained offensive momentum mid-way through the 4th quarter and drove inside the 5 yard line again. With their backs against the wall, and the game on the line, the Yellow Jackets of JSMS dug-in with pure heart—stuffing the Wildcats on 2 straight plays. A big hit from Ethan West jars the ball loose at the goalline—Landon Mathes scoops it up and sprints almost 20 yards before finally being forced out of bounds. The game momentum was then gut–punched out of the Wildcats. The Yellow Jackets poured on the steam after that. Chandler Clemmons finds paydirt again with an 80 yard run—but, it was called back due to illegal procedure. Next play, Aidan Young took a sweep around the edge for about 40+ yards. With the ball across midfield, the offensive line plowed a huge hole off-tackle and Kyson Noble took it about 40 yards for another Yellow Jacket score—with very little time remaining. After that, JSMS emptied the bench and Livingston added the final score with a deep touchdown pass with 2 seconds remaining. The Wildcats unsuccessfully attempted an on-side kick. JSMS took a knee—and start the season 2-0!
